Dr. Anthony Petrosini was raised in Staten Island, NY. He attended the State University of New York Downstate Medical School in Brooklyn, New York. He completed his residency training at New York University Medical Center and Bellevue Hospital. Dr. Petrosini is fellowship trained and Board Certified in Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Surgery.
His orthopedic training also included rotations at the Shriners Children’s Hospital in Tampa, Florida. Dr. Petrosini received specialty training in Sports Medicine at the prestigious Harvard University/ Massachusetts General Hospital Fellowship Program. While in Boston, he served as the assistant team physician for several professional teams, including the New England Patriots, Boston Bruins, and New England Revolution soccer team. He served as a staff physician for the Harvard University Health Service Sports Medicine Clinic and as a team physician for the Harvard University Athletic Program, which included many collegiate sports, including hockey, basketball, football, baseball, wrestling, and lacrosse.
He possesses expertise in arthroscopy and reconstruction of the knee and shoulder. His experience as a team physician allows him to treat most injuries conservatively while being able to detect conditions that require surgical treatment.
Dr. Petrosini had the privilege of serving as a sideline physician at all New England Patriot games during the 1996-7 season, which culminated with an AFC Championship and appearance in Super Bowl XXXI.
Dr. Petrosini serves as the Event Physician for the AVP Pro Volleyball Open held annually at the Jersey Shore. Players in this event include nationally ranked teams including the winners of the recent Summer Olympic games. He also served as team physician for the former USBL professional basketball team, the New Jersey Shorecats. Finally, he was an Orthopedic Surgeon for Sky Blue FC of the National Women’s Soccer League and is the team Orthopedic Surgeon for Manasquan HS.
In his spare time, Dr. Petrosini enjoys many sports, including basketball and golf. His experience and training have provided a unique perspective on athletic injuries. His philosophy on the treatment of sports injuries takes into account the athlete’s strong desire to return to activity, while ensuring the patient does not aggravate an injury or place themselves at risk for future injuries. Treatment protocols may be applied for all skill levels, including elite high school or college athletes, as well as weekend warriors. With the increasing athletic participation among all age groups, Dr. Petrosini tailors his treatment to the individual’s participation level, regardless of age.
